Position Description
This is a part time position approximately 15 - 20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule between 8:15am and 5:30pm Monday - Friday.
A blend of morning and afternoon shifts are preferred.
SUMMARY
Provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill or injured program participants. Educate the served population and their families on medical issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide medical assessment and needed care. Take and record patients' vital signs. Dress wounds and perform first aid treatments as necessary.
- Administer specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and note time and amount on patients' charts.
- Keep medical records up-to-date.
- Serve as the link between the YMCA location and the parent in communicating a medical situation.
- Hold trainings with parents and staff on medical issues. Provide educational material on communicable diseases.
- Insure cleanliness of the nurse's area including sterilization of equipment and supplies as required.
- Inventory and requisition supplies.
- Actively participate in the daily operations of the child care or camp site as directed by management.
- Exhibit the YMCA character values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
- Work in harmony and cooperation with staff, volunteers and program participants.
- Arrive on time and prepared for the scheduled shift. Assist in obtaining coverage when unable to work.
- Attend staff meetings, events and Association trainings as directed.
- Assist with insuring a risk-free environment. Caution people regarding unsafe practices and conditions. Work with program management to insure proper reporting of accidents and injuries.
- Maintain good public relations with parents. Understand that you represent the YMCA and maintain a positive disposition, demeanor and attire. Attempt to answer parent concerns or make appropriate referrals to the director.
- Treat children with dignity and respect. Recognize their individuality and diversity.
- Insure that no children are released without proper sign out procedures.
- Continually enhance professional development through workshops, educational courses and appropriate reading material.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have appropriate education and training to work with infants/ school age children and their families.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
State licensing as a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.
